Indianapolis Golf Guide
Pete Dye spent decades designing some of the most punishing and celebrated courses in the world, including Harbour Town, Whistling Straits, and the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, but Indiana is where he planted roots, and the fingerprints are everywhere.
Dye's first 18-hole course opened in Indianapolis in 1962, originally called Heather Hills and now known as Maple Creek Golf and Country Club. From there, he went on to design Brickyard Crossing, The Fort, Eagle Creek, Crooked Stick, and a handful of others within a short drive of downtown. Indiana is home to more Dye-designed courses than anywhere else in the world.
For golfers, that means Indianapolis is essentially the architect's home turf. You can play where he started, where he refined his craft, and where he built one of the most unique golf experiences on the planet. Brickyard Crossing puts four holes inside the oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is the kind of thing that sounds like a gimmick until you are standing on the tee with the grandstands looming over you and you realize it is absolutely not a gimmick. The Fort, carved out of 238 acres of rolling terrain inside what was once an active Army post, has been ranked the number one public course layout in the country by GolfPass.
Indianapolis does not always show up on the short list of great American golf destinations. That is a mistake worth correcting.

Indianapolis Lodging
